Kay Hamid is a pioneering figure in Singapore’s music industry, recognized as one of the first female solo artists to break through the country’s traditionally male-dominated club scene. Her distinctive voice, charisma, and commanding stage presence earned her the Best Performer Award at the 1985 Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Popular Song Contest, cementing her reputation as one of the region’s celebrated vocalists. ​Kay continued to break new ground with “Rintihan Dalam Gelita,” released in 1987. The album marked a significant milestone as one of the earliest Malay jazz and funk recordings from Singapore and Malaysia, bringing together prominent jazz musicians and composers.
